Simpaug Turnpike Finally Open to Through Traffic

A long time in the making, Redding residents can finally drive over the bridge on Simpaug Turnpike.

The bridge on Simpaug Turnpike which runs over the train tracks in Redding is finally open. The Connecticut Department of Transportation announced the bridge officially opened at 4 p.m. yesterday.

The bridge had been closed since October 2011. Originally, construction was slated to take nine months. In September, the DOT announced the project would be completed by the end of October.

According to a press release sent by the DOT, in addition to the replacement of the bridge, the project also included the installation of new retaining walls, roadway reconstruction and minor drainage improvements.

"Incidental work remains and may require alternating one way traffic during the day between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4 p.m.," the release says.

The project cost nearly $3.2 million.

This book really was a great read. And I bet his reading will be quite a performance too. Mr. BlackRead More is not only very, very funny, but very astute too. He's a screenwriter, so it shouldn't have surprised me to find that he is an excellent writer, but I was really impressed.
