The Children of Southport Give Back

The children of Southport Congregational Church raise funds for local non-profit.

Johanna Jackson just isn't your usual 5th Grader at Samuel Staples Elementary School, she is a child with a huge heart and an understanding of what it means to give back.

When Mikey's Way Foundation came to visit her school and talk to her and her classmates about what Mikey's Way does and why they do it, Johanna felt a need to spread awareness and help out.  She decided to present Mikey's Way to her Sunday school class at the Southport Congregational Church where every Sunday they take up a collection and donate the funds to a charity once they reach their goal of $500.  With four other charities in line to receive the funds raised, Johanna spoke with her class regarding all she learned about Mikey's Way at the SSES presentation.  They all agreed that Mikey's Way Foundation should be the recipient of the funds.

Last Sunday Mikey's Way was presented with the $500 check from Johana and her Sunday school classmates.  Les Friedman, president of Mikey's Way said of Johanna, "Johanna is an extra special child and knows the true meaning of Mikey's Way which is more than our mission, it's a way to try to live your life."   Mikey's Way Foundation would like to thank Johanna Jackson and the children of Southport Congregational Church.  To learn more about Mikey's Way please go to mikeysway.org.
