Plan B Burger Bar -- which will take over the former site of the post office on the Post Road in the fall -- is expected to hire 80 to 85 employees for the Fairfield site within the next few months.

The restaurant -- which has six existing locations in Connecticut and Massachusetts -- was recently named the top job creator in the state by Inc. Magazine, according to a release from Locals 8 Restaurant Holdings, which created Plan B. It was also named one of the fastest-growing private companies in the country by Inc. Magazine.

The hiring process as Plan B is different from most other restaurants and bars, according to Chief Strategy Office Lena DiGenti.

"It's fantastic how much people want to join our team," DiGenti said. "We literally make them jump through hoops and run through obstacle courses. I'm not kidding."

The unorthodox hiring process is meant to give potential hires a chance to express their personality, creativity, and ability to solve problems, according to the release. Plan B initially evaluates the applicants through job fairs that they host, online forms, video submissions, and in-person interviews. Those who pass the first round then earn a spot to participate in the field day event.

“It’s a great day, and everyone really bonds as a team,” DiGenti said. “Our field day is a combination of a day at camp, a casting call, and a BBQ meet and greet. We want to maintain our company culture and hire staff members who are fun, hardworking, and love burgers, beer and bourbon."

Plan B features craft beers, bourbon, and burgers made from beef that is ground in-house daily.

The 4,600 square foot Fairfield site will include a large bar and dining room that will seat 140 people.

The restaurant seeks to commission local artists to create pieces that reflect the "artisanal quality of boutique bourbon and craft beer," according to the release.
