Milk Paint Finishes

There are various ways to paint a piece of furniture. In our shop we generally like to either spray it with our spray gun system using a custom colored lacquer or doing it with a milk paint to get an aged antique look. Here are some before, mid-project and after pictures  of a 50 year old blanket chest that the customer wanted to have look like an old but bright colored finish. I used 2 colors of milk paint letting the yellow show through with some sanding and crackling techniques.

Have you ever tried painting a piece of furniture? It takes a lot more prep time than you’d think! Also, it’s always a good idea to do some samples first and even as you move through the project…it’ll keep you from making too many mistakes!

Please tell me your experiences with painting furniture with a comment below...and if you ever have any questions how it's done please contact me for any help I can offer. http://www.oakleyrestoration.com/

Thanks,
Bill
