Weston Art Teacher's Work On Display In Fairfield

The following is a press release written by Justin May of ArtPlace.

Starting today, through March 27, a Weston teacher's artwork will be on display in Fairfield. The work of Megan Collins, who teaches art at and lives in Norwalk, and Fairfield-based artist Susan Newbold will be on display at ArtPlace Gallery, which is located at 11 Unquowa Road in Fairfield.

There will be an opening reception for the artists at the gallery tonight, Saturday, March 5, from 3 to 6 p.m., featuring live music. In addition, there will be an opportunity to meet Collins and Newbold and ask them questions as they discuss their work during “Eat, Walk, Talk,” during a lunch gathering at ArtPlace Gallery on Saturday, March 12 at noon. Both the reception and “Eat, Walk, Talk” are free of charge and open to the public.

For the last 18 years, Collins has taught art at several schools, including Hurlbutt Elementary and in Weston, Whitby School in Greenwich, Holy Family School in Fairfield, and Taipei American School in Taiwan. She received her BA from the University of Hartford and MS in Art Education from Southern Connecticut State University.

Collins has shown internationally and has been featured in several exhibitions and juried art shows at such galleries as the Flinn Gallery in Greenwich, Katonah Museum of Art in Katonah, N.Y., and Westport Arts Center. In 2010, she had a solo exhibition at New Canaan library’s H. Pelham Curtis Gallery. For her collection on display at ArtPlace Gallery, titled “Deer Crossings,” Collins was inspired by the beautiful, and often problematic, deer in Connecticut.

"The work I will have on display at ArtPlace Gallery is a reflection of the complicated relationship I have with whitetail deer, who oftentimes eat all my attempts to grow a garden,” said Collins. “However, I absolutely love the magnificence of deer, and the fact that they have survived in Connecticut, generation upon generation, increases my respect for them.”
