Mark Twain Library Sponsors Final Green Concert

The following is a press release sent by Mary Ann Carman on behalf of the Mark Twain Library.

What do the and this week’s Concert on the Green have in common?

“Lots!” according to Sandi O’Reilly, a Library Trustee. “The concert is an enjoyable, free resource for Redding families. And as wonderful resources go, so is the Mark Twain Library.”

This Sunday’s Concert on the Green is the last one of the season, and features the band Bone Dry, known for its combination of acoustic rock and electric guitar combined with a range of musical styles. The concert — which runs from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 28 — is being sponsored by the Mark Twain Library to kick off September as Library Card Sign-up month and to also promote the upcoming Book Fair being held Friday, Sept. 2 through to Monday, Sept. 5 during the Labor Day weekend holiday.

“As parents get ready to send their children back to school, what better way to remind everyone that it’s the perfect time to get the most important school supply of all — a library card,” O’Reilly said. ”
Concert-goers are encouraged to stop by the Mark Twain Library table during the event to meet , to pick up a schedule for Children’s Story-Time, or to sign up for a library card."

“Getting a Library card is easy. Simply show proof of residency, and you have free access to movies, computers, music and books — and some things can be obtained from the comfort of your own home via the internet," O'Reilly said. "Why buy when you can borrow?”

Another easy way to find out what is going on at the Mark Twain Library is by “Friending the Library” on Facebook, suggests Ms. O’Reilly.

“Today’s libraries provide all types of students with the tools they need to succeed,” O’Reilly said. “Libraries provide young readers with exciting and engaging programs that make learning fun. It is for these reasons that now more then ever, a library card is the most important school supply of all.”

The Sunday evening Concerts on the Green are held on the Redding Town Green. Call 938-5036 x3 after 4 p.m. to find out if the concert has been cancelled due to weather.
