'You Know How Everyone Has a Guardian Angel? He's Ours'

Two poster-size photos of late firefighter Russell Neary covered the windshield of the 2013 Jeep Wrangler Sahara being raffled off at the Easton Volunteer Firemen's Carnival.

Neary, who sacrificed his life in the line of duty as Hurricane Sandy hit the region last year, was a longtime volunteer in the raffle tent where the jeep is featured.

"This was his baby," Easton Fire Capt. Mike Kocsis said Wednesday night. "That's why we have his pictures here. He's always with us. You never lose a friend like that.

"Every time we go into a situation or respond to a fire, Russ is watching over us. You know how everyone has a guardian angel? He's ours."

Firefighter Peter Neary, Russell's brother, also volunteered in the tent Wednesday.

"The community really has done a great job of honoring him," Neary said of his brother. "He was a good father. He was a good volunteer. He was a good worker for his company. He was just the guy you wanted to be, and I'm proud to be his brother."
