Westport will begin its annual pavement management program Wednesday, milling and paving roads across the town for the remainder of the month.

Roadway milling will begin on Richmondville Avenue at Oak Street and work south to Main Street.  Roads will be milled and paving operations will begin on Friday, Sept. 20, and will follow the course of milled roads, according to Westport Public Works Director Stephen Edwards.

Woods Grove Road, Burr Road, Indian Hill Road, Ferry Lane and West End Avenue will also be milled and paved over the course of the project, according to Edwards.

Road crews will work from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and the project is expected to run for two weeks. Alternating one-way traffic will be in effect during the workday, after which the roadway will be opened for regular two-way traffic.

“Raised structures will be present in the travel way and will be marked by cones, barrels, paint or drums,” said Edwards. “Drivers are warned to proceed with caution as this area will be a work zone until the paving project is completed.”

Edwards said drivers traveling through the work zones should anticipate delays, and are asked to follow instruction of traffic control personnel and Westport police officers.
