Fairfield Native Rolls Out Wedding Planning Business

Written by Caitlin Mazzola

Fairfield native Kerri-Lynn Orsini-Mulhearn knew when she woke up the morning after her own wedding a few years ago that she would become a wedding planner.

After working as an event planner for eight years for Major League Baseball, the National Football League, and other corporations, Orsini-Mulhearn decided it was time for something completely different.

And so she launched "Stella Day Events" in late 2011, and has been planning area weddings ever since.

"I love creating relationships with the bride and groom, and getting to know their families," Orsini-Mulhearn said. Those relationships inspired her to launch her business.

One father of the bride told her that hiring Orsini-Mulhearn to plan his daughter's wedding was "the best thing they did" in terms of nuptials process.

"It's important to me that their parents are happy. It's such an important day; I know what they're going through," Orsini-Mulhearn said.

Stella Day Events, which is based in Manhattan, began as a month/day-of planning business -- meaning Orsini-Mulhearn would be hired to manage the details of the rehearsal dinner and wedding day, and not the planning beforehand.

In the past year and a half, the event-planning boutique's services have expanded to partial planning (event design, vendor selection, and day-of logistics) to full planning (everything beginning "the moment the question is popped until the last bottle of champagne is popped").

Orsini-Mulhearn will take on clients in Fairfield County (from Fairfield to Greenwich) as well as Rye, Larchmont, New York City, and the Hamptons. She plans to expand her reach further into Westchester County and is open to traveling and booking destination events.

As far as her planning style goes -- it's up to the couple, but Orsini-Mulhearn knows what's trending.

"I'm younger, I get it," she said. "Weddings are different now -- the bar is set really high."

She knows that couples -- especially brides-to-be -- "are all about the details," and Orsini-Mulhearn has cultivated relationships with vendors who can meet those needs.

"These days, brides want something totally different -- they want to have their own flair."

Those brides have met their match in a planner, who has developed a love/hate relationship with the social media site Pinterest.

"Pinterest can be great -- or a planner's worst nightmare," Orsini-Mulhearn said.

Still, she has a handle on all the details big and small that go into planning a wedding -- and loves the challenge.

"It's nice to be doing something you genuinely love to do," Orsini-Mulhearn said.
