The Danbury News-Times and The Redding Pilot Endorse Julia Pemberton for Redding First Selectman

Both The Danbury News-Times and The Redding Pilot have formally endorsed Julia Pemberton as the best choice for voters in the race for Redding’s next First Selectman.

“I am honored by the endorsements this week by both of the newspapers that cover Redding,” Ms. Pemberton said.

In declaring its support, the News-Times said “Pemberton is the better choice in Redding...Pemberton’s involvement in Redding — including a leadership role on the school board and serving the past four years on the Board of Selectman — has put her in a better position to grasp and act on the key issues facing the community. We also believe Pemberton would take a more aggresssive, more creative approach to revitalizing Georgtown and broadening Redding’s narrow tax base.”

Ms. Pemberton has also received formal endorsements from U.S Senator Richard Blumenthal and Redding’s former First Selectman from 1977-1989, Mary Anne Guitar.

“The more I know about Julia, the more impressed I am,” said Senator Richard Blumenthal. “Julia’s priority is the people of Redding. She has a record of service, a record on the issues of open space, on environmental issues, on keeping taxes low, which is important particularly for our seniors, and a record on education as a value. “Julia also has that ability to reach across the aisle, which is not all that common today. To get things done on a local level, it really takes building a consensus. It’s called leadership. Julia is that kind of leader.”

Former First Selectman Mary Anne Guitar said, “Julia Pemberton is a true multi-tasker, somebody able to jump from budgets to getting snow off the roads, from contract negotiations to regional meetings of our neighboring towns, determined to get Redding’s share of state dollars, and go from protecting the town’s land use regulations to planting trees on Earth Day. That’s what first selectmen do — every day, all day. As a selectman for the last four years, Julia’s participated in board decisions crucial to the future of Redding. Her record proves she’s committed to keeping Redding a small town with good schools and reasonable taxes.”

Also weighing in with strong support is Former Selectman Tina Miller (1997-2009).

“I support Julia for First Selectman because she has the energy and experience to preserve the things we all value about Redding. She is a leader and a listener. With Julia as First Selectman and Leon Karvelis on the Board of Selectman, we will be in good hands.”

The Redding Pilot has endorsed Ms. Pemberton’s running mate, Leon Karvelis, for Selectman, citing his extensive qualifications and business experience.
