Republican Caucus Elects Town Committee

(Redding, January 14) The Redding Republicans held their bi-annual caucus on Monday, January 13, and elected members of the Town Committee for the next two years. 

The elected regular members are: Amy Alcott, John Board, Ronna Brier, Parker Coates, Paul Degener, Tom Derderian,  Frank DeSalvo, Joan DeSalvo, John Downey, Linda Eike, Dick Emerson, Urs Furrer, Chris Hocker, Mike Hoffman, Laura Hoeing, Randi Hutton, Natalie Ketcham, Wally King, David Lewson, Ward Mazzucco, Gary Miyashiro, Tami O’Connor, Jerry Sarnelli, John Shaban, Frank Taylor, Michael Thompson, Eric Witt and Joe Zarb.

The caucus also gave special commendation to 25-year Town Committee member Norma Riess, who is moving from full membership to senior membership. In addition to her long-standing association with the Redding Republicans, Mrs. Riess has served with distinction as a member and Chairperson of the State of Connecticut’s Office of Governmental Accountability Freedom of Information Commission. In recognition of this service, her portrait was recently put on permanent display in the State House.

Included on the elected slate were two new members, John Board, who had previously been an associate member, and Ronna Brier. Mr. Board, a 2012 graduate of Joel Barlow High School and an Eagle Scout, is currently a student at WCSU, where is a political science major, a Senator in the Student Government Association and Alternate Representative to the Board of Regents. John is also a member of Senator Toni Boucher’s exploratory committee for Governor. Ronna Brier, her husband Jonathan and their children moved to Redding from Bethany, Connecticut, where she had served as Vice Chairman of the Republican Town Committee and a member of the Board of Education in that community. She holds a Master’s Degree in Psychology and is currently employed by Sound, a center for music, creative arts and mindfulness in Newtown.

The Republican Town Committee represents the 1,964 registered Republicans who live in Redding for the purpose of identifying, supporting and electing capable Republican candidates to run for office on a municipal, state and local basis. In the course of doing this, members of the Town Committee participate in party caucus and conventions. Additionally, the Town Committee will study and support or oppose state legislation concerning Redding as well as study and recommend improvements in local government.
