Improve Your Bridge Game

Newtown Bridge Club will host workshops in modern bidding basics for bridge players on Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the Hawleyville Volunteer Fire Station, 34 Hawleyville Road (Route 25), Newtown CT, beginning April 16, 2014.

“Bidding is the most important aspect of the game,” said club manager Susan Fronapfel who will present the Easybridge! workshops. “If you and your partner consistently bid to the right contract, you have a significant competitive edge. The key to modern bidding basics is a simple system with understandable bids.”

April workshops include: Opening the Bidding (April 16), Major Suit Fits (April 23) and 1 Notrump Bids and Basic Responses (April 30). Seven more workshops are scheduled through July.

Players are welcome to come to workshops alone or with their bridge partners. Each workshop consists of a brief lesson followed by play and discussion of hands related to the session’s topic. The material is appropriate for social bridge players and duplicate bridge players with 0-20 masterpoints; cost is $10 per session.
