Dear Fellow Eastonites,
I am writing to you this evening forty miles away from my family’s home in Easton where my 39 weeks pregnant wife and 2 year old son are fortunate enough to have relatives with electricity and room to house us. I am deeply sympathetic to my friends and neighbors who have no option but to weather a sixth cold and powerless night in our fair town. And I am mad.
As customers of UI, we are powerless in multiple ways – but not all. While UI controls the grid that delivers power to our homes, we are free to purchase electricity in the open market from other suppliers. These suppliers presently offer rates that are as much as 20% lower than what is charged by UI.
The process of switching power suppliers will take less time than placing a fruitless status update call to UI and not only save us money, but send a clear message to UI that we will not tolerate the incompetence and mismanagement that is presently wreaking havoc on nearly half of our town.
I urge every citizen of Easton who has endured hardship as a result of UI’s calamitous response to our town’s power crisis to take action before complacency sets in. The company we are forced to depend on for the utmost of essential services has demonstrated that we are not essential to them. Let us limit the profits they generate from their service monopoly and use the money we save to rebuild, replant, and recommence our normal lives in the beautiful town we share.
Best Regards
Jeffrey Weber
