Redding Ridge Market a Saving Grace

Redding Ridge Market & Deli is one cause of a stress-free summer for many of Redding's residents.

Redding Ridge Market & Deli has saved the residents of Redding gallons of gas and plenty of worry over where they will buy their groceries.

Jordan Wright, a resident of Redding since his first birthday, according to his mother Sandra Wright, is responsible for the peace of mind residents now have. Patch spoke with his mother about the business.

“Jordan opened [the market] up on Feb. 7 of this year,” Wright said. “This is his first store venture. He’s been a freshman football coach over at for three or four years and he was a builder.”

When the building market began to dwindle, the younger Wright focused on life in Redding, according to his mother. After he finished his last building project in St. Thomas on the Virgin Islands, he bought the market, Wright said.

“The town has received [the market] amazingly,” Wright said. “This has historically been a market for decades. For the past 30 years it has had a deli, which has been very active.”

Due to a fire that occurred two years before her son had bought the property, the original market had been shut down.

“People had been driving to Bethel to get their groceries before Redding Ridge Market & Deli had opened,” Wright said. “The community depends on this location. There are a lot of senior citizens who felt a sigh of relief when he had opened the market up."

The Redding Ridge Market & Deli is a three-in-one deal.

Tucked in the corner of the store, the deli serves those looking for anything from a sandwich to a smoothie. Several of the items on the drink menu appear to come right from a fancy barista-run café. A "Midnight Mary" is one of the specialty drinks that the deli serves. It is made with almond crunch, ice cream, chocolate-milk and amaretto syrup. Finally, the market serves as a grocery store.

Todd Waterman, an 18-year-old resident, frequents the Redding Ridge Market & Deli with his friends.

“I come here mainly for the hot sandwiches and milkshakes. Right after school there are a lot of people here,” Waterman said. “There is always a line. When they first opened, there was a huge line out the door.”

His friend, Greg Jacoby, finds that his favorite burrito can be found within walking distance of his high school.

“I come here for the beef burrito. It’s actually quite good and it’s one of my favorite things here,” he said.

“The manager was my freshman year football coach, so this place seemed really Joel Barlow oriented,” Waterman stated.

Wright involves his business in the community he grew up in, according to his mother.

“He’s doing a lot of work with the and he does a lot with Joel Barlow sports,” she said. “Jordan does a lot of catering. This year he did a lot of end-of-the-year banquets and graduation parties. He also just catered a beach party.”

With a large variety of food, beverages and services, Redding Ridge Market & Deli is a one-stop-shop for many of Redding’s residents. Located at 119 Black Rock Turnpike, right next to Redding Wines & Spirits, it is within walking distance of the high school.
