Redding Police Launch Holiday Initiatives
With Stuff a Cruiser and Shop With a Cop, the Redding Police Department has its eyes towards the less fortunate this holiday season.
Feeding those who are hungry and helping less fortunate children enjoy their holidays more.
The Redding Police Department is continuing two traditions this holiday season.
On Saturday, Dec. 22, from 10 to 1 p.m., Redding Police will be in Newtown at the Big Y. Their goal? To fill up a police cruiser with food items. Those food items will be donated to area food pantries so that those who are in need this holiday season won't go to sleep hungry.

The department is also seeking donations for its Shop With a Cop program. According to Police Chief Douglas Fuchs, the department works with staff at the elementary school and middle school to "identify a few kids that could benefit from spending some time with us."
"Because of financial hardships of the parents, we buy them some wants and needs that they couldn’t afford," Fuchs said.

The department is asking the public and business owners to help the project by sending donations for it. The project, which is in its fifth year, helps kids ages 6 through 12.
Those wishing to donate to the cause should mail checks to the Redding Police Department. Special recognition will be made for donations of $200 or more.
