Mailboxes vandals caught

Three teens, from Redding and Easton, were apprehended by Weston Police on Wednesday, June 22, and later found to be smashing mailboxes in Weston and Redding. The three youths, after being caught in Weston, admitted to having smashed mailboxes in Redding on Ledgewood Road and Dayton Road.

Toby Hesketh-Tutton, 18, of Howes Lane, Justin Stenerson, 18, of Deer Hill Road and Dylan Preveligio, 18, of Easton were charged with criminal mischief in the second degree.

They were released on written promises to appear at July 13 court dates.

Theft of a sycamore tree

On Wednesday, June 22 at 4:18 p.m., a town employee reported the theft of a sycamore tree from the grounds outside the Community Center. According to the employee, about two weeks ago, he noticed three Hispanic males between the soccer field and elementary school. They were dressed in dark green shirts and digging with shovels.

Police said the employee told him he thought it was strange behavior, but didn’t inquire as to what they were doing. The next day, the tree in that area was missing.

The 15-foot sycamore tree, 10-inches in diameter, is valued at $2,000. The men took the tree away in a green truck.

Police are reviewing security camera footage at the community center to see if suspect information can be developed.

Theft from a motor vehicle

On Monday, June 20 at 11:43 a.m.. a Cross Highway resident called police to report that an iPad 1, valued at $550, was taken from his car, which was parked at the Boys and Girls Club. The car was unlocked.

Theft of credit card           

On Tuesday, June 21 at 4:47 p.m., a Diamond Hill Road resident reported that sometime on Saturday, June 18, between 9 and 1 p.m., someone stole a credit card, a debit card and $100 from his wallet while he was at a country club to which he belonged. According to the complainant, $1,100 was spent on his cards in Stratford, and $100 was spent in New Haven and West Haven.

Theft of cash at Joel Barlow           

On Friday, June 24 at 9:34 a.m., Principal Tom McMorran reported two incidents of larcenies of cash from the guidance department. One victim had $20 taken, the other had $100 taken. There are no suspects or leads at this time.

Noise violation           

On Friday, June 24 at 11:47 p.m., police responded to a noise complaint at the for loud music. It was the same complainant who called in last week. Police said there’s been dialogue between police and the bar’s owners.

Driving charges           

On Monday, June 20 at 6 p.m., police stopped a driver on Hill Road. It was later discovered Gregory Fedders, 58, of Ridgefield was driving with a suspended license and driving without insurance.

On Tuesday, June 21 at 7:50 a.m., police stopped a driver on Umpawaug Road, near Diamond Hill Road. It was later discovered Elizabeth Larkin, 38, of Bethel was driving an unregistered motor vehicle.

On Friday, June 24 at 4:04 p.m., police stopped a driver on Redding Road for running through a stop sign. It was later discovered that Wynn Watkins, 42, of Weston was driving an unregistered motor vehicle.
