Building Collapses on Cartbridge Road

An old building, likely owned by a contractor, caved in to the weight of the snow Monday afternoon.

A vacant building on Cartbridge Road collapsed into the roadway in Weston Monday afternoon, around 3 p.m.

"It's vacant, the garage is vacant, it's been vacant for awhile," said Rack Gleason, the town's building inspector. "What you see is what you get."

The building obstructed travel in one lane, and the responded to the scene to help direct traffic.

Fire Chief John Pokorny said he had driven by the building about an hour prior, and it was fine.

"We're not even sure who owns it yet," Pokorny said. "The building inspector is going back to figure out who owns it, and it's just going to have to be removed from the roadway."

Gleason said as soon as he figured out the owner, the building department would make arrangements to take it out of the road.

Traffic — however sparse — was moving slowly to avoid the obstruction.
